This Sat. 11/12, we have a tentative Lot Day planned.
Meaning if it's NOT RAINING (as the forecast says it might) we have our regularly scheduled Lot day. So if no rain: This Sat. 9:30a till 12Noon. Water will be provided.
Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty in, wear sunblock, and bring garden gloves if you have them!

Yep! THIS Sat. Sept., 3rd from 9:30a till 12Noon will be our next Lot Beautification Day.
Will be prepping and making it nice and pretty (even more then it already is!) for Ecclesia's BBQ the NEXT day. We need your help, so please come even for a little bit.
Remember to wear TONS of sunblock, clothes you don't mind getting dirty in, bring water, and a happy attitude. SOME water and snacks will be provided. :)

Yes, the Green Teams: Exchange For Change is coming close!!!!!
Sun., Feb. 13th. 11a.m. till 2:00p.m. in the lower lobby area at Ecclesia!

But, what's the need for "Exchange For Change" you ask?
It's a simple clothing swap event the green team will be hosting to raise money for the Lot next to the church. Will be charging a $10 entrance fee to come in and "shop"! We have BIG dreams for the Lot and want to eventually reach them. One of the biggest dreams is to one day see this Lot as a community garden and be able to reach out to our local Hollywood neighborhood.

So...simply put: Exchange your clothes to see Change in the Lot.

Here's the basics:
-Leading up to the event we will happily take bags of clothes from anyone willing to give to be used at the clothing swap! Will have a box placed in the lobby for your clothing donations. ANY clothing not swapped will be taken to PATH or the Salvation Army. *ON THE BOX* will be promotional signs and a vision sign of what we'd like to see the Lot become. This will be a wonderful visual for Ecclesian's confused about the event!!!!
-The day of, it's simply a $10 entrance fee. No bag of clothes required to come in.
-Will open up "shop" in the Kids Club area: 11a.m. till 2:30p.m. *Please try to enter from the right side of the stairs. Our entrance area will be placed there.*

We really, really, really hope you can come out and help support the Lot. We believe God has beautiful plans and we desire to see them flourish!!!!

Don't forget THIS Sunday, December 5th is the Alternative Christmas Market. We are hosting an Eco-Friendly wrapping station, FREE OF CHARGE! We have some volunteers but if you realize you are available to come and linger at the booth for a while PLEASE do. We still would love some "Elf Wrappers". If not, try to at least visit the market and purchase a few Christmas gifts. The profits go to whatever non-profit organization the booth is supporting.

"I read something this morning in Isaiah which made me think about what you and our other "laborers in the field" are doing with the vacant lot (aka as the sun-scorched land). It is such a simple yet profound act of Christian witness to the blighted part of our neighborhood."

Hello Green Teamers!
PLEASE don't forget this Saturday the 11th is our Lot Beautification Day,
from 9:30a till 1p.m..

Snacks and Water will be provided!
Parking: There's the meter parking on HWblvd., along the side streets are 2hr. parking and further up & around you can find no timed street parking.

Things NOT to forget:
Wear sunscreen and/or a hat
Even though will have water, it would be a good idea to bring your own (Eco-friendly) bottle
Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty
Wear closed-toe shoes or be prepared to have dirty feet. :)
and have a positive, servant attitude! :o)!

If you have the following please bringing them: Garden gloves, ANY Garden tools, some desert plants or seasonal (Fall) plants you'd like to see planted.

Hello fellow Green Team 1n5'rs!

First, we simply wanted to say...thank you, thank you, thank you so very much for serving at Ecclesia. Your service has not gone unnoticed. We are very grateful for how hard everyone has been working to make our 1n5 shine much brighter. So, thank you for serving the Lord through the Green Team 1n5! You rock our socks off!

Second, we want to make sure everyone is on the same page with our 1n5 task, so below is a detailed list! :o)

Updated 7/8/10----------------------------------------------------------------

Green Team 1n5 task:

Arrive at 8a.m., check-in with Kevin Miller in the Lobby, pray with other 1n5 folks signed up for the day, meet your 2nd 1n5 green team partner and plan together who is doing what. After all is said and done have some breakfast in the green room (not our room just the snack room).

OFFICE LEVEL:
*Check copy room and empty the BLACK CONTAINER. Remove ALL empty cardboard boxes below table/work-station. White container is trash only.

*In the kitchen area is a "Cans only" trash can, please empty it to.

*Do not take empty ink cartridges. The Xerox Co. will replace and recycle them.

WATERING & CLEANING THE LOT:

*Pick up all trash and cigarette buds, and if you have extra time please pull some weeds.

*Visit security in the offices next to the church and get the hose key from them. Ask them to open the gate, and they can also help you get into the alley where the water hose is located. The easiest way to get the hose to reach the back is pulling it through the fence, it can also then reach the front as well. Water all the flowers in the front, the small patch of greenery with wild flowers in the middle, succulents, the tree planted further in the back, the rosemary in the back, and anything else you see needing water. Put hose up, lock-up gate, and return hose key to security.

THEATRE/NARTHEX:

*ONLY empty the GREEN and BLUE CONTAINER. GREEN is for paper, BLUE is for plastic & cans.

*Check the room on the LEFT, upstairs, next to the stairs going down to the MEN'S restroom, remove ANY empty cardboard boxes in this room.

*Our clip board is in the closet furthest to the right in the narthex. Please check off all your task.

*Before you leave tell Kevin Miller you're done and if there is any extra boxes you do not know about.

~ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH YOU TO BE RECYCLED IN SOME FORM OF CAPACITY. ~

Lot Beautification Day: MAY 1st!

That's right! The Green Team is hosting another Lot Beautification Day on Saturday, May 1st from 10a.m. till 1p.m.. If you want to hang out a while longer & work on the lot we welcome that, but those are the "official" times the Green Team will be working.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
-Wear a hat or sunblock, you will be in the sun!
-Parking! There's meter parking on Hollywood Blvd., & if you drive up & around Wilcox you'll find some free parking as well.
-Water (for yourself!)

BRING:
-Gardening gloves

If so, please come down THIS Sat. to the lot, it is in need of some love! There will be flower planting, weed pulling, garbage disposing, etc.

Ecclesia is gearing up for the Christmas holidays and we are excited to be a part of it!

Exchange For Change: RECAP

Hello fellow blog readers,
We wanted to give you a recap on this past Sunday's Exchange For Change event. Well...., it went GREAT!!!!!! We had a ton of clothes donated. Which was a fun site to see. Lots of very nice clothes to swap with, there were some great finds I tell ya!

Many people stepped up to the plate and gave of their time and helped serve. We had many tacos and pastries, which were frankly very tasty! We had so much in fact, that we were able to donate a great deal to the PATH ministry afterward.

Also, and most importantly we were able to raise a great deal of money for the India Outreach Team. They all were there as well, giving of their time, serving.

Exchange For Change: The Basics
-When: Sunday, September 20th, 2009 from 1p.m. til 3p.m.

-What YOU do: Bring a bag (or bags!) of old clothes, DONATE $20.00, leave with as many bags of clothes that you want.
-Food? YES, for a reasonable price, a yummy taco lunch, sodas, & baked goods will be provided.

Exchange for Change: It's a good thing

Exchange for Change!
Yep, On Sunday, September 20th from 1p.-3p. Ecclesia will be hosting it's 2nd annual "Exchange For Change", event/fund raiser! We (The Green Team) are so excited about co-hosting this event. Alongside with the India Mission team who leave this October. We will be raising money for them and towards more green team efforts. Check out the India Mission team's blog:

So Why do an Exchange for Clothing?
Great question! People are always on the hunt for new clothing, shoes, belts, etc.. You name it we're always looking for it. So, Instead of going to an department store, trendy boutique, or even a great sale. (All of which are something we will continue to do.) Why not give those stores a break and give your lovely garments to someone else, and in return you may find a treasure for yourself! This is a GREAT parallel to everyday recycling. Recycling your clothing is a beneficial act, that helps your neighbor and your community, and will provide some much needed funds for the impoverished in India, so it's a win, win, win! You can bring as many bags (lets try not to use plastic bags!,lol) of clothing you want. With just the simple donation of $20.00. You then can leave with as many bags as you want! Think about how much you spend on a pair of jeans.........yeah we think it's a pretty great deal too!

INFO.:
-We will have food (tacos!), baked goods, and sodas for purchase.
-You can start bringing your bags of clothing to church now, making it easier for us to organize them the day of. So, when you attend you'll just need $20.00 and a bag to load up!
-Any left over clothing will be given to either the India Team or a local shelter.

To Carpool or not to Carpool? THAT is the question!

Carpooling. (also known as car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing and covoiturage), is the shared use of a car by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for commuting. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpool

Carpooling...sounds so simple, easy, fun. But it also seems to be the most difficult for most of us to commit to. Communication is the key to carpooling! Below are a few tools that my help motivate you into pursuing the oh so desired carpool life style to church.

- Where do you live? Pasadena, Burbank, North Hollywood, etc., whom do you know and probably sit with during church that may be close to your home? Think about these things, and take the step to ask your friend(s) if they would be interested in car-pooling twice a month. Give it a shot. There could be some closer friendships built and possibly a yummy coffee stop along the way!

-Are you in a home group? Well, most of these folks probably live REALLY close to you and are facing the same dilemma as well. Don't be afraid to talk about it in your home group and discuss who would really like to work together to carpool. This is the best way of knowing who lives close by.

-What if they have a meeting/event/lunch date after church? Great question!
This is where talking about carpooling in your home group is key. Communicate, call, text, email whatever and share your desire to carpool and the need for a lift home. Or seek out transit. Taking the bus home may take longer but it is a sure way home!

Our church is growing (YAY!) and with this brings less places for people to park. We have 2 regularly used parking lots, and on a regular Sunday, they usually get filled pretty fast. Leaving many people to search and search for parking only to come in during the middle of the sermon. We need to work together and help with this solution. So start chatting and opening up your drive to picking up someone or letting go of your car to ride with a friend.

Give Carpooling a try, we promise it want disappoint!

This Sunday the Green Team has a lot of great things going on. Whoohoo!

FIRST= Green Team Meeting THIS Sun. (June 14th) at 10a.m. up in the church office conference room.

What will be going over:
Exchange for Change
Green Team Structure (Task Managers)
Bike to Church
Empty Lot/Tree Maintenance -1in5
Recycling Program (People are NOT actually doing it, when scheduled.)
Etc..
AND a light breakfast will be provided (BIG plus!)

SECOND= Bike to Church Day! (This Sunday as well!)

Where ever you live in Los Angeles give it a shot! Let's help our church with parking and the environment by leaving our cars at home. Bike to church! Then join us after for a group ride to Plummer Park (around a 2 mile ride) where we can eat lunch and enjoy frisbee, tennis, games, or whatever floats your boat. Fun, exercise, community, and no cars...what could be better!

Project:Hollywood!

Hello fellow Green team folks!
PLEASE don't forget THIS Saturday, June 6th is Project:Hollywood!

If you signed up to help with the Green Team (OR any team) make sure to arrive at 9A.M.. Be prepared to serve, work, make new friends, and of course have a blessed time. All events will end at 2P.M.. Remember Green team is beautifying the empty lot next to the church and cleaning/picking around Hollywood freeway (101) on/off ramp.

What we need help with:
BEAUTIFYING the empty lot next to the church!
-Many hands for clean up, weed pulling, and planting
-We'll also need yard tools, gloves, shovels, etc., If you have them let us know, and/or bring them!

-If you know anything about plants we need your help. We are going to plant some hedges along the permanent fence and possibly some low maintenance trees that can be moved along the gates. CLEAN UP along Hollywood freeway on/off ramps
-Mainly, we just need hands to help pick up garbage.

Hey friends,

the meeting at church on Sunday went great! We were able to get more focused in our approach to upcoming events. With D. Paul's insightful wisdom, we realized we might be biting off more than we can chew with all the events planned for this next month. So, we've narrowed our focus and changed some event dates. Here is our plan:

-We are going to focus our current energy on the CLOTHING SWAP. The event date will be June 8th. If you are interested in helping out with this, let us know.

-The biking, carpool, and metro dates are getting pushed back until after the clothing swap. However, don't let this stop you from doing these things on your own. If you're interested in participating in some test bike runs and metro trips, let me know at bobkunz23@hotmail.com. We'll definitely need some small trips to make the bigger trips more successful.

How to plan your trip to church on the Metro.

Hey everyone!

I just wanted to give you all a little info on a simple way to plan your trip to church using public transportation. We plan on assigning area captains that you can contact for carpooling, Metroing, and if you have any questions on your local route. However, it's quite simple to do it on your own using Metro's trip planner. It's fairly self explanitory, however, I'll give you some easy steps to follow:

1. Connect to the metro site at this link

2. Enter your street address in the start point and the church's street address (6433 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90018) at the end point.

3. Enter the day you are traveling and the time you want to arrive by (make sure you leave a buffer, so you arrive on time!).

4. Verify your street addresses.

5. Pick a bus a route you prefer. They give you estimated times with the top choice being the shortest.

6. All info is then posted on the screen, including where your bus picks up and drops off, estimated time, price of fair, and the saving you get from choosing public transportation over driving your car.

Green Team's in the Spotlight on April 20th!

Plans are in the works for the Green Team to be featured during the service on April 20th! This will be followed by a meeting at 1:00 where you can finally learn more about our team and sign up for specific ways to help out. We've had a ton of great folks express interest in the team--thanks so much for your patience and keep your eyes out for more updates here and at church.

Yes, we're still here. It's been awhile though. This past Sunday, February 10th, we had a meeting. At the meeting we discussed what we've implemented into the church, what we're working on implementing, and ideas for the future. Here are those results:

Things we're excited about that have begun.

Recycling, both office and main church.

Fair trade and Organic coffee from New Harvest Coffee Roasters and Ecocontainer cups.

Carpooling program. Though this needs a bit of organization, it is much needed for many reasons; it builds more community with your carpool buddies, the church only has so many parking spots and they often run out, with the price of gas its financially and environmentally smart. Yeah.

Things we're working on.

Carpooling, this may take a bit to get people organized and used to the idea, but it's moving forward. Also, we're accepting suggestions on how we could better execute this.

Ways we can introduce people to the Green Team at the 1in5 fair on Feb. 24th.

Researching, pricing, and hopefully implementing green cleaning, bathroom, and office supplies.

Getting more folks involved, perhaps volunteers for doing coffee, recycling, and purchasing office supplies.

Updating blog more regularly....aagghhh.

Getting a green email list going.

Ideas for the future.

Perhaps an earth day service in April with a theme of Biblical Stewardship (maybe in conjunction with Fuller Mornings, if they are still going?).

Ride your bike to church day with a short group ride afterwords (does someone want to head this up?).

Clothing swap, perhaps with the lounge (does someone want to head this up?).

With that, we at the Green Team are excited in our pursuit of wisdom in the ways that we serve and share Christ. God Bless.

Green Team Meeting-September 23rd

Hey everyone,

We had our very first Green Team meeting last week! It was great to hear the awesome ideas people had to help "Green-ify" our Ecclesia community. Below is a very simple list of some ideas we discussed, the ones in bold are those we've decided to try and get moving on first.

Take a look, and if you have more ideas, or if you are interested in jumping on board with one that's already here, let us know!

Look for ways to help make the Ecclesia office more environmentally friendly.
Research recycling services for the office and theater.
Look for ways to help various ministries (kids, hospitality, etc.) become more green by first speaking to them about what they use, purchase, need etc., then by offering to help them shop and/or make purchasing decisions.
Set up a Green Team blog so that people know what we're about and can see simple opportunities to help out.
List study resources on the blog about the importance of environmental stewardship.
List resources on green tips and various green lifestyle changes.
Find a bike rack for theater.
Help folks organize carpools and/or try the metro if they haven't yet.
Replace the Styrofoam coffee cups with at least paper ones, if not recycled paper ones and hopefully (someday!) ceramics.
Encourage use of the Farmers' Market.
Offer home "audits" to help people make their homes more environmentally friendly.
Offer a Bible study for Home Groups or a Fuller Morning on environmental stewardship.
Team with Cineminklings for a green movie night.
Team with the Justice League for a night on the connection between social justice and environmental stewardship.
Offer a list of simple volunteer tasks around the church that people can do to help out on a one time or recurring basis.
